Mountain artillery

A set of images inspired by WW1 mountain warfare. During the conflict both Italians and Austro-Hungarians built impressive networks of tunnels, trenches and cave, fortified positions and centers of comand and logistics. Teleferic were widely used to transport ammunitions and soldiers to the observation posts and cannons were hoisted up to the very top of the mountains, to gain control of valleys and mountain passes.
Here I wanted to imagine a neverending conflict that bring this kind of high altitude warfare to its extremes, giant cannons are built on top of impervious peaks and trenches become cities for the troops to station during the endless war of attrition.

Many of the tricks I used for rendering and handling a massive scene without destroying my graphics card come from Piotr Kryński 's tutorial "Efficient Environment Design for Blender", if you are looking for tips on how to render and manage scenes efficiently his videos are worth every penny, it has got all the small rendering secrets you want to know.
